Side delt |
| Notes |
Development of the side deltoids helps create a broad, wide-shouldered appearance.
The lateral deltoid is a multipennate muscle, meaning it consists of many fibers in a feather-like arrangement. Pennate muscles contract little and are powerful only over short distances, so the anterior and posterior deltoids assist the lateral deltoid in raising the arms. A variety of angles ensures that all of the pennate fibers are worked. |
